Why is there a need for a booster dose?

Who are eligible for booster dose?
• Frontliners
• Individuals aged 40 and above
• Individuals aged 18 and above with comorbidities
• Staff and residents of care facilities
• Individuals travelling aboard

When to get a booster dose?
For Pfizer recipients, booster doses should be administered at least six months after their second dose. For Sinovac recipients, booster doses should be administered at least three months after their second dose.
Are the booster shots the same formulation as existing vaccines?
Yes. Covid-19 booster shots are the same formulation as the current Covid-19 vaccines. However, in the case of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine booster shot, it is half the dose of the vaccine people get for the first two doses.
If we need a booster dose, are the vaccines still working?
Yes. Covid-19 vaccines are working well to prevent severe illness, hospitalisation, and death. However, experts are starting to see evidence of reduced protection. Therefore, a booster dose is needed for longer-term protection against Covid-19.
Can I use a different vaccine for booster dose?
The Ministry of Health (MOH) recommends a third Pfizer Covid-19 shot for Sinovac vaccine recipients, based on studies that it showed higher efficacy in individuals that received a third heterologous Pfizer dose.
