Acid reflux and GERD medicine works by lowering stomach acid to manage symptoms. There are three main types of medications available over-the-counter and by prescription. These are antacids, H2-Receptor Antagonists and proton pump inhibitors.
H2-Receptor Antagonists are generally recommended for symptomatic relief of milder GERD. For moderate and severe GERD, proton pump inhibitors are superior.
